Why John F Kennedy?

Celtic supporters are mainly descendents of Irish emigrants who left Ireland to build new lives for themselves and to give their families a successful future in Scotland and elsewhere in the world. John F Kennedy’s ancestors left Ireland for the exact same reasons; they chose to settle in America.

Celtic supporters crave success for their team and are fiercely proud of their Irish roots and all things Irish. They are particularly proud when fellow Irish men and women do well in any walk of life. John F Kennedy succeeded by becoming President of the most powerful and successful country in the world, like us, he was proud of his Irish roots. Celtic supporters look at his achievement and it inspires us, it makes us proud to be like John F Kennedy, descended from families who emigrated from Ireland and built a new and successful future in a foreign land.

History

The John F Kennedy CSC (Perth) was formed in 1976 by Terry O’Donnell and Stewart Donnelly.  The club was formed to take Celtic supporters from Perth and the surroundings areas to Celtic Park.  The club used Glenisla coaches from Alyth that picked up members from Alyth, Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus, before picking up in Perth.  In 1976-77, the club organised two buses to leave Perth going to the League Cup final at Hampden.  The club also ran buses to European away games and in 1980, a trip to the Bernabeau to play Real was arranged for a European Cup tie.  When the club was formed it was also decided to form a Flute band, this was a successful band and travelled miles to play against other bands.  The original banner cannot be found but we still have the drum!!

For season 82-83 Owen O’Donnell took over as president, before Gary McNamara was elected for season 83-84, Gary remained president for over fifteen years, during this time it was decided to change the name to Perth Celtic Supporters Club.  Throughout this time there were many successful player of the year dances, which were often attended by our chosen player of the year, most notably in season 95-96 when Pierre van Hooijdonk and Jackie McNamara were voted player of the year and young player of the year, respectively and both attended the end of season dance at McDiarmid Park.  Season 2000-01 saw Paul Lambert voted player of the year and he also came to pick up his award in person at the end of year dance.  The start of season 99-00 saw Denis Boner elected as president, Denis was president for three years when he stepped down.  Season 03-04 saw Maureen Cameron elected as president and at the start of season 04-05 it was decided to revert back to the original name of the club; John F Kennedy CSC (Perth)
